Initial Jobless Claims Fall to 712,000

This morning’s initial jobless claims report came in at 712,000. That’s pretty good. It came very close to the lowest number in a year.

One report from November was for 711,000. The last “normal times” report was March 7, 2020, which was 211,000. Since then, the highest report, in late March 2020, was close to seven million.

The market is up again this morning. The Dow closed yesterday at a new all-time high. It was the first time in history that the index closed above 32,000. It’s already halfway to 33,000.

As I write this, the S&P 500 is at 3,944, which would be an all-time high close but not an all-time intra-day high. The Russell 2000 looks to close at an all-time high.

On our Buy List, we have new highs from Fiserv (FISV) and Middleby (MIDD). The latter is already a 32% winner for us this year. Fiserv is up over 10% this year.
