January CPI Unchanged

This morning, the government reported that consumer prices were unchanged last month. Excluding food and energy prices, prices rose by 0.3%.

For the last 12 months, headline inflation is running at 1.37%. Interestingly, the trailing 12-month figure finally dropped off three very negative months from a year ago. The trailing 12-month core inflation rate is now 2.21%.

The seasonally-adjusted monthly core rate was the 0.293%. That’s the highest rate in nearly 10 years.
